What is Early intervention?

Early Intervention helps children with special needs to grow and develop. We help families address their concerns, organize their needs and set a course of action to help build on their child's strengths at no cost to the families.

What are the Benefits of Early Intervention?

Because all children are unique, they rarely do the same thing at exactly the same age. As a result, it is not unusual for parents to have questions about their child's development.

Research shows that the first years of a child's life are the most critical time of learning. This is when children are exploring their environment and establishing their foundation for learning. Research has also shown that early intervention may help to reduce the need for special class placements or special education programs for children when they reach school age.

What does an Early Interventionist do?

An Early Interventionist is a trained professional who works with the family to ensure the child is reaching his or her full potential. Early Intervention services provided in the home and throughout the community may include:

Helping the family learn about the child's developmental milestones
Providing learning activities to enhance the child's development
Linking families to available services in the community and assisting the family in deciding which services are right for their child and family
Transitioning the child into the school system.

Who is Eligible?

Children from birth to 6 years old may be eligible for this service if they are showing delays in the following areas:

crawling walking communication social skills self help skills learning disabilities vision and hearing difficulties
